CCE Ulster County 4-H is offering a tractor safety certification class through its youth development program, open to teens 13 and up. The course will meet seven times throughout the spring, and the final driving test will take place on Saturday, April 26, at the Ulster County Fairgrounds (249 Libertyville Rd, New Paltz).

Participants will learn essential safety skills when driving tractors, led by instructor and agricultural engineer Grant DeWitt, a former 4-H tractor operation winner. The curriculum is set by the National Safe Tractor and Machinery Operation Program.

After the test, students will earn a US Department of Labor Certificate of Training, a requirement for operating farm equipment professionally. The test is open to young workers aged 14 - 19, but 13-year-olds can still attend the class for the practice.

The course will be held at the Stone Ridge Firehouse (525 Cottekill Rd, Stone Ridge). Safety classes will be held March 20, 25 27, and April 1 and 3, each at 7 p.m., and there will be additional driving practice on April 24 and 25 ahead of the certification test.

Registration closes on Tuesday, March 11, and space is limited to the first 20 paid participants. It's $10 for 4-H members, $25 for nonmembers, and the fee includes a Student Manual.
