The Liberty Diner, located in this village, has been a local favorite for years. It’s owned by the Tsicalos family: Nick, Helen, Irene and George. On Monday, Jan. 13, the Tsicaloses celebrated the restaurant’s 35th anniversary with an enthusiastic group of regular patrons and supporters.

Opening in the winter of 1990 on Sullivan Avenue, across from the former Sullivan’s Department Store, the Liberty Diner has successfully made it through many tough times, including the COVID pandemic. But despite those challenges, the family has managed to stay connected with the community.

With a menu that ranges from all-day breakfast to seafood and steak, the Liberty Diner offers something for everybody. The restaurant is very family-oriented and welcoming to parties of all sizes. The staff are always extremely kind and patient, and they are very good about getting refills and checking on their patrons, ensuring their needs are met. The diner is a great place for a quick meal or a nice sit-down dinner with your family.

Located right off Rte. 17 at Exit 100, the Liberty Diner makes a convenient stop on a road trip. Tourists looking for a comfortable environment to enjoy a home cooked meal can find it there.

The 35th anniversary was an exciting event for staff and guests. Many people close to the Tsicaloses came for the celebratory gathering to enjoy cake and to congratulate the family. There were many recognizable faces, including County Clerk Russell Reeves, County Legislator Louis Alvarez, Undersheriff Eric Chaboty, businessmen Sean Brooks of Prestige Towing & Recovery and Anthony Mongiello of Formaggio Cheese, as well as many others. The party was fun and it was very enjoyable for everyone.

This reporter had a quick meal at the diner, followed by a slice of the anniversary cake, and both the meal and cake were delicious. The Tsicalos family was grateful for everyone’s support and appreciative of the wonderful community supporting them.
