The Kerhonkson Volunteer Fire Company marked its 100th anniversary with a celebratory evening on December 26, 2024, honoring the organization's legacy of service to the community. The celebration marked the actual day and time the company was founded, following a year of celebrations and a parade in June.

The company officially organized on December 26, 1924, at a meeting of 31 men at the old Arcadia Garage, located on what is now a vacant lot across Route 209 from Stewart’s Convenience Store. A report in the December 25, 1924, edition of the Ellenville Journal called for the meeting to discuss organizing a fire company, inviting everyone to attend.

The memorial service last week began at 6:45 p.m. at the Kerhonkson Federated Church honoring deceased life members. Following the service, attendees gathered at 7:45 p.m. at the site of the original Arcadia Garage for a reading of the company's original minutes. At 8 p.m., the fire company's siren sounded, marking the exact minute of the organization's founding, followed by a fireworks display.

“From those original 31 members 100 years ago today, to the over 400 people that have served over the past 100 years, to the nearly 70 men & women that are members today, we thank you and celebrate you tonight," the fire company stated in a press release. The company has seen many changes in the community over the years, with the main business district moving from Main Street to Route 209. However, the fire company has remained a constant, serving the hamlet of Kerhonkson and surrounding areas for a century.
