A historical reenactor will visit the Matthewis Persen House Museum on Saturday, Aug. 31, to share his knowledge about World War II's Pacific Theater.

Hank Yost will deliver a compelling presentation, shedding light on the significance of Victory over Japan (V-J) Day. The event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will take place at the museum, 74 John St. in Uptown Kingston. Admission to this enlightening event is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Yost’s presentation will delve into the pivotal events that culminated in the historic announcement of Japan’s unconditional surrender by President Harry S. Truman on Aug. 14, 1945. Furthermore, he will explore the global response that greeted the end of the most ruinous war in human history (to date). To bring history to life, Yost will also showcase authentic objects and uniform elements, offering a glimpse into the lives of enlisted men who valiantly served in the United States Armed Forces in the Pacific Theater.

“Hank Yost brings history to life, and we are excited to welcome him back to the Persen House for his second presentation of the season,” expressed Acting County Clerk Taylor Bruck. “Hank has spent years studying these topics for the sole purpose of helping the public to engage with their history and to broaden their understanding of some of the most pivotal events in American history.”
