Residents of the so-called Shawangunk “Valley” had a guest recently: Architectural Digest contributor Brett Berk test-driving a six hundred thousand dollar Lamborghini through southern Ulster.

In an article that appeared in the magazine on Tuesday, Berk described the experience of redlining a lime green Lamborghini Revuelto at “triple digit” speeds through, in his words, “the region’s shabby Catskills bungalow towns” on a wet day. The Revuelto is Lamborghini’s new hybrid sports car, the most powerful street-legal automobile the company has ever built, and one of their most expensive at a starting price of $608,358. It sports a V-12 engine capable of 1,001 horsepower and a top speed of 217 miles per hour.

It may not, however, feature much of an onboard map, because Berk quite confidently describes the Shawangunk Ridge, our own beloved two thousand foot ridge of sedimentary rock, as the Shawangunk Valley.

Much of the review focuses on the reactions of bystanders, most of whom he says expressed “novel forms of human loathing” as the sound of the roaring engine “stunned” everybody from tourists to construction workers to turkeys on the side of the road. The “eeriest experience of all” for Berk was parking it outside a local gas station to use the restroom.
