The Noonday Club of Ellenville’s 2024 Citizen of the Year is Dwight Coombe of Sprague & Killeen Insurance, a lifelong Grahamsville resident who has been intimately involved with the Ellenville/Wawarsing community for many years.

Coombe will be honored for his community contributions and service to veterans at a special ceremony on Saturday, September 21, at the Soyuzivka Ukrainian Heritage Center in Kerhonkson.

Dwight Coombe grew up on a family farm in Grahamsville and graduated from Cornell University with a degree in engineering. He worked with his brother and obtained a life and health insurance license, and he is now the owner of Sprague & Killeen, at 116 Canal St, Ellenville.

As a licensed pilot, Dwight helped organize and fly the local Young Eagles program, introducing young people to the aviation industry and leading flights out of Resnick Airport.

He currently serves as president of the Greater Wawarsing Local Development Corporation, which manages funds for new and existing businesses in the township. He also coordinates the annual Wings & Wheels for Warriors car, truck, motorcycle, jeep, tractor and airplane show. Since 2015, the event has raised nearly $160,000 for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) of New York.

In his spare time, Dwight still helps out on the family farm.

The celebration in his honor will begin with a cash bar cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m, at $65 per person. If you'd like to attend, contact Mary Shelley at 845-647-8100.

Congratulations Dwight!
