The DJ booth was booming, bubbles were popping, and the latest issue of Chronogram was flying off the table last Wednesday at Ellenville’s Market on Market. The farmer’s market, which returned this summer after a year-long hiatus, is now being held weekly on the Morning Sunshine lawn on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.

Patrons who stop by can find everything from live music, fresh lobster rolls, organic meats and produce and distilled liquors to household goods. Last week, Chronogram held their launch party where they handed out their July issue, featuring a photoshoot of Ellenville’s colorful community.

Victoria Messner, co-owner of Morning Sunshine and co-creator of the Ellenville market, manned the Morning Sunshine kitchen window, selling classic menu items from the cafe. When Market on Market originally opened a few years back, it was a large-scale production, Messner said. This summer, they aim to provide a smaller-scale and more consistent market to the Ellenville community.

“We still have 15 vendors, we still have a DJ, and we still have places you can get dinner. It's been a huge success considering how often we're doing it,” Messner said.

The Chronogram launch party also turned out to be a rousing success, since many community members at the market were able to catch their picture in this month’s edition.

“It's so funny how many creative and like-minded people there are in this beautiful community,” said Gabriella Gagliano, the magazine’s media assistant. “Early last month, we held a photoshoot here where people from Ellenville were welcome to get their portrait taken. We featured people who live and work and do things in the community.”

Also present at the market were Majestic Farms, represented by Sarah Budde, selling a variety of pasture-raised, heritage-breed meats, and organic apples. Jayne Henson, owner and operator of Transgenerational Farms, was selling local organic produce and herbs. Henson will be at the Market every week this season. Cooper’s Daughter, a woman-owned, family-owned distillery, sold their signature flavored vodkas and bourbons.

“Business has been great. Everyone is so lovely,” said Wendy Enoch, of Wendy Enoch Pottery. “I like to use beautiful things every day, so everything that I make has a function and is meant to be seen and used every day.” Enoch and many other vendors at the Market on Market will sell their products at the Ellenville Blueberry Festival and the Borscht Belt Fest in the upcoming weeks.

Morning Sunshine also looks forward to being able to accept SNAP benefits at the Market on Market later this year, to make the market as accessible as possible to everyone in the community.
