The Ulster County Board of Elections has begun accepting online votes for its fourth annual "I Voted" sticker design contest. The stickers are part of a program to encourage civic engagement by celebrating democratic participation.

The contest is open to students in Ulster County schools. This year, six students from different schools have submitted designs for the stickers. Individuals can vote on their favorite design online. The winning design will be the cover for the highly anticipated 2024 General Election "I Voted" stickers. The stickers will be distributed at all early voting locations and poll sites during the upcoming election. Early Voting will begin on October 26 and run through November 3rd, with election day occurring on November 5th.

Finalist Julian BP George, age 14, from Saugerties Junior High School, said his design was inspired by a belief in voting. He said, "I always go with my mom and love seeing the process. I can’t wait until I can vote!"

Eliot Lirstman, 10, a finalist from Grant D. Morse Elementary School (Saugerties School District),, said, "I hope that my “I Voted” design spreads happiness and the joy of voting – because both of those things make our community and country stronger."

Cricket Landewe, age 10, from Middle Way School (Saugerties, NY) created two designs which, if selected will appear as two separate stickers. One sticker features a design that reads, “Bigfoot says: Don’t be shy. Come out of the woods and vote.” His other design features an alien in a flying saucer that says: “SPACE for everyone’s opinions.”

Other finalists SaraRose Ermilio, age 13, New Paltz Central School District and Tess Gallo, age 13, M. Clifford Miller Middle School (Kingston City School District), and Adam Krause, 13, from Saugerties Junior High School, also submitted sticker designs.

John Quigley, Republican Commissioner of the Ulster County Board of Elections, said, "We are excited to announce the launch of online voting for the 'I Voted' sticker design contest, enabling our community members to engage directly in this significant initiative. The creativity and skill demonstrated by our local students are truly outstanding. We invite everyone to visit our website, vote for their favorite designs, and contribute to selecting the winning design that will be featured on the stickers for the upcoming General Election."
