SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF MAY 22

Absent from the meeting were Board President James Buck and Business Manager Jeff Froehlich.

Administrative Reports: Reports were given by Adam Larson, high school principal; Chris Hubert, elementary principal; Lauren Marrero, director of special services; and David Eggleton, director of physical education. Specifics of these reports can be found in the minutes of the May 22 meeting online.

Superintendent’s Updates: LMCS/RCS Merger Re-vote: After several discussions with the state Dept. of Education, the BOCES district superintendent will be permitted to review and approve an addendum to the existing Roscoe/Manor merger study. Once approved, this will allow the districts to hold another advisory referendum vote regarding the merger. A tentative date for the advisory referendum, or “straw vote,” would be in September or October, and if passed in both districts, a merger referendum vote would follow in November or December. Superintendent John Evans will meet with Dept. of Education to review the specific items they would like to have updated.

Sports Merger Request: Both the OCIAA and Section IX have officially denied the request from the LMCS and RCS boards for a complete sports merger at all levels. The organizations’ recommendation was for the school districts to merge. Absent a merger, the district will be subject to the previous season-by-season merger requests that have been followed.

Budget Vote Exit Survey: A survey of voters was taken during the budget vote, and a majority of those who responded supported revisiting the school merger.

Action Items: The following items were voted and unanimously passed.

Minutes of the previous meeting, treasurer’s reports, revenue status and budget appropriation reports.
Warrant, CSE, CPSE and Section 504 recommendations.
Accept a $1,000 donation from NYSIR and the budget modification.
Accept the results from the budget vote and election. The budget of $20,252,120 was passed with 201 in favor, 74 opposed. The two winning candidates for board seats were Chris Tuleweit, 173 votes, and Edward Gorr, 149 votes.

Consent Agenda: The consent agenda was approved as presented.
