Ellenville Central School District residents will go to the polls on Tuesday, May 21, to vote on both the 2024-25 school budget and trustees for the school board.

The budget is set at $64,743,465 for the coming school year. It represents a spending increase of $3,920,505 or 6.45 percent over the 2023-24 approved budget total of $60,822,960.

After adjustments and inclusion of other revenues and fund balance money, the tax levy will be $28,050,463 — a rise of $642,313, 2.34 percent more than 2023-24’s levy. District officials said that number is under the state’s property tax cap limit.

The state aid portion of the budget comes to $29,856,616, an increase of $234,981 over the previous year.

The tax levy broken down by townships is projected in a budget presentation document on the district website. It reads thus:

Town of Wawarsing (Includes the Village of Ellenville) — Rate per $1,000 assessed property value: $23.7846

Town of Rochester: $26.757609

Town of Mamakating: 42.341711

Taxable assessment totals for the three towns:

Wawarsing — $1,039,737,361. Equalization rate: 81 percent. Partial Exemption of $3,000.

Rochester — $8,502,051. Equalization rate: 72 percent.

Mamakating — $73,053,766. Equalization rate: 45.5 percent.

Number of property parcels to be taxed:

Wawarsing — 5121

Rochester — 39

Mamakating — 970

“Based on the information which is currently available with regards to the assessed values and equalization rates, we cannot accurately project what school district tax rates/bills will look like,” the budget document stated.

The Ellenville Board of Education, which approves the budget, has three open seats. The incumbents, John Burns, Lisa Ramirez and Iris Friedman, are all running for reelection. Joining them will be Latisha Kentop, a new name in this competition.

The vote will be held Tuesday, May 21, at Ellenville Senior High’s Media Center (Library) from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
